The University of Chester was founded in 1839 and went through a number of changes before officially achieving university status in 2005. Results in a recent National Student Survey showed that 88% of Chester students were satisfied with their university experience, well above the national average.

The University of Chester offers a wide variety of degrees, ranging from Zoo Management to Film Production to Archaeology, while Nursing and Midwife courses are located on a specialist site.

University of Chester’s employability record is among the best in the country. More than 92 per cent of recent graduates were in employment or further study within six months of leaving last year. For international students flying in, Manchester and Liverpool airports are a short journey away.

Services for International Students

The University of Chester’s International Office operates a meet and greet service at selected airports for new arrivals, before transporting them to their new accommodation. Induction programmes then take place a week before study begins and involve meeting careers and employability staff, doctor registration, opening a bank account and various social events.


Accommodation in University of Chester halls is guaranteed to all undergraduate international students in their first year, providing the accommodation deadline has been met. Students will have the choice of converted Victorian houses to modern purpose-built, offered on full-board, semi-catered or self-catered basis.

The University of Chester was revealed as the sixth safest university in 2013 and all accommodation is within close proximity of the University.

The University of Chester is ranked 1st in the UK for practice placements, joint 1st for academic support and 2nd for teaching. The Faculty of Education and Children’s Services celebrated an ‘outstanding’ outcome from the 2010 and 2011 Ofsted inspection of Initial Teacher Training.

22% of Research from the University of Chester was classed as world leading following the recent Research Excellence Framework. Psychology, Sports Science, Modern Languages and Health & Social Care all performed well nationally.


The main campus is 10 minutes walk from the centre of one of the UK’s most historic and beautiful cities.
